Denis Fouque, MD, PhD,
is Professor of Nephrology at the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1, and Chief of the Division of Nephrology at Lyon Sud Hospital in Lyon, France. His research focuses on nutrition and metabolism in chronic kidney disease and dialysis.
Dr. Fouque has authored more than 540 scientific publications, including reviews, meta-analyses, and 26 book chapters. His work has received more than 40,000 citations, and he holds an h-index of 96. He previously directed the Adipocyte Dysfunction Research Group within INSERM Unit 1060 at the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1.
Committed to advancing evidence-based medicine, Dr. Fouque founded the Cochrane Collaboration Renal Group in 1997 and served as its Coordinating Editor until 2001. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held numerous leadership positions, including President of the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism (2004–2006), Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Renal Nutrition (2003–2010), Chair of the ERA Nutrition Guideline (2007), and Editor-in-Chief of Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation (2017–2023).
Dr. Fouque has also served as Research Vice-President of the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Vice-Chair of the European Renal Best Practice Group of ERA, and member of the KDIGO Advisory Board. He was a Council Member of ISRNM for 30 years and of ERA for 9 years.
