World Kidney Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of kidneys for the overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. The World Kidney Day is an important event all around the world with many activities to increase kidney knowledge and kidney health. It is celebrated for the 20th time in 2026 and since last year acknowledged by the Wolrd Health Organization (WHO) as global public health day. The official WKD theme for 2026 is "Kidney Health for all - Caring for People, Protecting the Planet". This theme is meant to shed some light on the fact that Kidney disease and climate change worsen each other. By preventing kidney disease, detecting it early and reducing the need for resource-intensive treatments, we can all help to limit their mutual impact.
