Short Biography

Prof. Juan Jesus Carrero
serves as a professor in cardio‑renal epidemiology at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) at the Karolinska Institute and as a senior researcher in the Division of Renal Medicine at Danderyd Hospital. His professional ambition is to improve the prevention and management of persons with Cardio‑Kidney‑Metabolic (CKM) syndrome, with a particular focus on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).

He pursues this goal through epidemiological analyses of large datasets containing healthcare information from Swedish citizens and international populations.

Since joining Karolinska Institute, he has authored more than 650 scientific articles and 30 book chapters on the epidemiology and complications of CKM/CKD, with special emphasis on modifiable risk factors such as diet, lifestyle, and inappropriate medication use. His work has received over 120,000 citations, and his current H‑index is 111 according to Web of Science. He is also a frequently invited lecturer at national and international scientific conferences worldwide.
